I just upgraded my wife's lappy to Vista Business (32bit). Its an HP nc6320, T2400 (1.83ghz), 2gb RAM. I've installed all the appropriate video drivers, etc. and installed all updates for windows.
The issue is that the cpu is almost always at or near 100% usage (processes under resource monitor don't equal 100% but monitor and task manager as well as sidebar gadget report 100%). There is the occasional instance when it drops to idle briefly but ram usage has never increased above 32%. Furthermore, the cpu fan on the lappy is running (probably) at 100% continuously. Also, this is after several reboots. This has me stumped. Any ideas?

Try some of these vista guides and disable the sidebar to see if it makes a change.

In addition to Anth0789 suggestions, you can try out this tool and see if it picks up anything. You could also use the install cd to try to repair the OS.

Found something that might fix it:
http://guy.dotnet-expertise.com/Perm...3fb7b227e.aspx You might want to check what you have starting on startup: http://www.netsquirrel.com/msconfig/msconfig_vista.html
