Yeah after it took me about 2 hours (or something) till the installation was done I went in and choose the administrator account I used to use back in Windows XP, seems like everything is working well (windows saying configuring desktop, etc) but then a message pops up saying the following:
"c:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\desk top refers to a location that is unavailable." The desktop looks like a cheap version of windows xp without any themes, plus it won't let me open anything except for the task manager. Tried re-opening explorer.exe with no luck .. Any help ? I'm using Vista Ultimate 32bit btw. Thanks in advance ![]()

I don't know what you did to keep your accounts but you shouldn't have done it. Wipe the disc and start clean every time. Doesn't matter what OS you always do this.

QFT. Try a clean install.

Yeah, I think for some reason a clean install worked better for me. It looks from what you copied that there's a space between desk and top.

LOL, it was just a typo. As for the clean install we'll see.

Also get the latest drivers for your video card so Vista will enable the Aero stuff.

Bah I managed to delete the accounts but I copied all the files I had in first. I then made a new administrator account using the CMD but I can't get anything to work. Like when I try to click "personalize" it doesn't work, none of the options from the Start menu work neither.
If I get to fix it, I'll update the thread. If you have had this kind of problem before please enlighten me.

Just back up your files and start over. If its that bad then chances are the installer screwed up during the upgrade process, and there is nothing you can do to fix it.
If you don't do this already, when you reinstall make a separate partition for your media and programs and have the install Vista on its own partition so if it doesn't work you can just reformat the Vista partition and keep your files.
