Default Harddrive configurations.

Hello. Quick question for you.
I configured a system with 3 hdd's and one cd rom. I set it up as follows:

Primary ide:
Master-cd rom drive
Slave-30gb hdd.

Secondary ide:
Master-4gb hdd.
Slave-3gb hdd.

I assumed placing the 30gb hdd as the primary slave windows would automatically place this as the C:\. However when installing winxp, xp seen the 30gb drive as the E:\ and not the C:\. Looked something like:
4gb c:\
3gb d:\
30gb e:\
So I could choose to put xp on the 30gb E:\ and it put the boot files on c:\ and boots up fine.

I had a word with a pal who said to get the 30gb as the c:\ i'd have to phyiscally take out the hdd's and re arrange them so windows see the 30gb as the c:\. Is there another way round this?
Thanks for any ideas on this.

P.s what's happening with the faq's I posted one but then got some message saying:

set the 30gb as master and the cdrom as slave then go into the bios and disable the other 2 hdds until windows is loaded or just unplug em also disable or unplug any usb card readers during setup those will mess up drive letters too

If you are installing for the first time disconnect all drives but the one you wish for the OS to be installed upon. This must be on the Primary IDE and set as Master, it would be best then to have you CD-rom drive on the Secondary IDE as slave as the controllers will default to the slowest device speed which is not what you need for the OS Boot drive.

Maybe .. but good practice to keep slow drives away from the fast ones.. esp if you are doing a CD Copy or backup between the devices.

click start, right-click my computer, manage, disk management, right-click on the big white space with the name and size and drive letter, and then there is an option to change drive letter. if that doesnt work then you might have to move cables around
