My friend is having a problem... he is running xp sp2 and whenever he logs in he gets a windows file protection error. There aren't any problems with his computer. How can he disable Windows file protection?

Can you explain more about the message? Usually, I have only run into that error when I try to change a Windows System File.

The error is:
__________________"Files that are required to run windows properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability Windows must restore the original version of these files" I know there is a way to stop windows file protection... that's all I am trying to do.

Have you tried a system restore?
Does it list what files were replaced? Can you click Okayż

if you type sfc /scannow in the run bar it will run the WFP stuff and fix the files. It'll just require that you pop in your XP disc.

He said he lost his XP disk. Does any one know how to disable the file protection service?
