Default USB hard drive in RAW mode... Need help fixing it

Hi guys. I need help on my hard drive enclosed in a USB enclosure used for files and backup only. One day it just decided not to work. When i turn on the drive, a message would pop up saying i need to format the drive before using it.

When i checked in computer management, it said the hard drive was in raw mode.. I am thinking that maybe the bootsector got hosed? But i don't even boot up this drive, this drive is purely for music and pictures. Is it possible to save this drive? please help. thanks!

sounds like the drive corrupted, your gonna have to format it

do a quick format and dont put anything on it, you can usually recover around 50% of the things with recovery programs

Eventually its going to get out, your case isn't air tight.

Before you do anything too destructive, boot up a Linux live CD and see if you can rescue anything from the USB disk from Linux.

Also, see if you can use Acctive Partition and recover the partition/file system that was on the drive.

Get the GParted Live CD and run the testdisk utility.

You might also want to try the Recovery Is Possible Live CD as it has some more recovery tools.
