Default Annoying Problem with Standby in XP!

In short, the issue I've been having is that my computer will not wake up from standby mode in XP.

I have been running Vista on my system since I got it and had a some issues, again with the sleep function, which then lead to the system refusing to post. I had eventually tracked the problem to a bad stick of ram, which Buffalo kindly replaced for me. My system ran just fine after the new ram was installed.

I am in school and have had to resort to switching back to XP for one piece of software, Catia, which doesn't like Vista but it vital to my oncoming school year. I have had no issues with the OS except the stupid thing won't properly wake from standby.

It'll enter standby with no issues, but when I go to wake it up again, my desktop wallpaper will show up with an hour glass and just hand there. I've installed all the latest chipset(including sata controllers and such) and video drivers for my 8800 but still no dice. The OS is fully updated to SP3.

It's a pain because I'm a student and have to be careful with power consumption, standby is vital to not being broke and shutting it down all the time is too time consuming. I have OSX running on another hd with no issues when it comes to sleeping, and Ive never had an issue with XP like this.

Anyone have any ideas on how I could fix this?

Standby is dependant on the mobo im convinced. My computer does standby fine now, but my old NF4 board would turn right back on as soon as it turned off, same with my brothers computer now.

I never bothered with special drivers, but as soon as i got this new board it works fine.
Just a thought

Good Luck

hmm, can't say I want to spend $$ on a new mobo when this one has been so good to me. No one else knows how to fix such an issue?
