When the files are patched, yes. Only Vista Basic is left. You can always unpatch the files, it's just a click of a button. Once unpatched it comes back.

Yeah but when I do a theme, I loose Aero, which is the whole point of the theme.
I installed the theme, and it needs Aero too loonk good, but since Aero gets disabled, the theme looks like crap.

Aero is a theme, just like any other theme you'd download. You are saying that the theme you are trying to install depends on Aero. No theme depends on another theme, they all work independently.

Aero is a theme, not a permanent visual effect or desktop environment. Linux has desktop environments such as KDE, Aero does not work this way in vista.

While I agree with most of what you've just said, I wouldn't say Aero is JUST a theme. It also adds features that don't work when aero is disabled. Namely, windows flip 3D, and the previews in the taskbar. Whether the patcher removes those 2 features, I don't know, but Aero is more than simply a theme.

You are correct, it is a little more. I never used flip 3d.

I found out what he was trying to say. Project was trying to apply a multi step skin, the kinds I reccomended against. His taskbar was coming out to be windows classic and he thought it was because aero was turned off. I informed him that the theme was to blame and everything seems to be working fine now.

I have never heard of such a problem. Did you replace any of your explorer.exe or shell32 files? That can screw things up.

Could you post a link to the visual style you used? I'll try it on my computer and try it with Steam to see if I have the problem also.

It could just have to do with the theme.
