I recently upgraded to 4GB of RAM so I'm looking to install a 64-bit version of Windows as soon as my 64-bit OS compatible wireless card gets here.

I've had nothing but good experiences with XP, but I'm looking for a change. I like the look of Vista and some of the features sound like something I would use often, but I'm worried about the hit I would take to game performance. Is it even that bad with 4GB+ of RAM? I am planning on getting a GTX 260 Core 216 soon, so any performance loss might be canceled out anyway.

Vista 64 imo and i have tried xp 64 multiple times, xp64 is fail and vista x64 is the most stable vista, go with vista x64 great os

Vista has way better driver support than XP does. Vista SP1 runs some games better than XP also.

Vista actually performs better than XP gaming wise. I would go with the Vista x64 since it does have a better support than XP x64 did. Though XP x64 has had better support in driver wise now.

Times have changed and Vista has caught up with XP in terms of performance. There's no reason not to get Vista. Well, except Windows 7, but if you need an OS right now, don't hesitate to buy Vista.

Alright it's pretty much unanimous then! I was still under the impression that games ran ~15% slower in Vista compared to XP. Thanks + rep to all!

I think that might mostly be when AA is applied--AA in DX10 is more difficult for cards to handle than AA in DX9. But even then, there are many cards out now that won't have a problem with that regardless.

XP X64 has a lot of driver issue and compatability issues. Go for Vista X64

Don't even waste time dual booting that. XP 64 bit never really got anywhere. But now with vista being the latest OS and 4GB becoming the norm, vista has done incredibly well and is well supported unlike the XP 64-bit version.

vista 64 for the sole purpose that it has much better driver support than winxp64.
