I was under the impression that a dvd decoder was something different seeing how most of my searches showed either fishy software or software packs that you needed to pay for. Still not 100% sure if this is what I need but i'll need to try it to find out.

cccp is good and lite. its just the codec no player, uses media player. least to my knowledge
![]() and yes, it is what you need. windows is not packed with a dvd codec aka decoder, and thusly cannot read dvd movies until some 3rd party software is installed. i use it, no bugs.

Go to your Laptop manufacturers website and select the downloads for your model.
One of the downloads will be a DVD suite for your laptop. I have done this on 5-6 laptops (HP, Dell, Gateway and Acer) and never had a problem.
