Alright thanks. I'll probably try this.

I was under the impression that a dvd decoder was something different seeing how most of my searches showed either fishy software or software packs that you needed to pay for.

Still not 100% sure if this is what I need but i'll need to try it to find out.

cccp is good and lite. its just the codec no player, uses media player. least to my knowledge

and yes, it is what you need. windows is not packed with a dvd codec aka decoder, and thusly cannot read dvd movies until some 3rd party software is installed.

i use it, no bugs.

Go to your Laptop manufacturers website and select the downloads for your model.
One of the downloads will be a DVD suite for your laptop. I have done this on 5-6 laptops (HP, Dell, Gateway and Acer) and never had a problem.
