Hey guy i was wondering if you could help me with a problem.
I have had this computer with vista for about 2 years but yesterday.. when i started my computer a window poped up before going into my desktop and it said this windows vista is not genuine and it had to buttons on it Activte Now or Activate later. I tried pressing activate now and it said to put in a windows vista key or get a new one. i finally found my windows vista key on my CPU (im a bit of a begginer with computers) and so i typed it in my code and they said it was invalid. So i went back to activate later and it went into my desktop everything seemed ok except for my wallpaper it was black and not my normal wallpaper and at the bottom right corner in small lil text showed this windows vista is not genuine. If anyone knows even the slightest info about this please share it with me and if you have a solution please make it easy to understand because as i said im kinda new with computers. |

It sounds to me like you got an illegal copy of Vista. If this is the case, you can report the company that installed it to MS, but you'll still have to pay for a legal key.

If all else fails, you can call MS see what they'll do. It seems strange that this only happened after 2 years.

Or it could be Microsoft's activation servers are on the fritz again. AGAIN.
I suggest you call Microsoft.

Did somebody even wonder why the vista key would be on his cpu? If it's a computer that's pre-built (e-machines, dell) they sometimes have the key on the back of the computer or inside one of the many books/ads they pile the computer in. Also did the computer (if pre-built) come with a recovery disk?

OP: I'm thinking someone stole your Vista key and activated it on his/her computer.

It should, you could also call them and see if you can get it worked out.
