Default Windows 7 and soundblaster drivers don't work

When I try to install creative soundblaster drivers (for XP, Vista), all I get is an error message with something like "Unsupported operating system. Please make sure you have Windows XP or later versions." I tried this for many different official drivers but none of them would work for me. I finally used a modded one which installed fine, but won't let me update to the most recent drivers since the official ones aren't compatible. Anyone else have this problem?

When installing my X-Fi drivers, I had to right click, select properties, and select Vista for compatibility mode. Then I just ran the install file as administrator and they installed fine.

Do you remember how long it took Creative to get some working Vista drivers? Yea.

Thanks man, it worked. Rep+

The thing is, it doesn't detect my 5.1 system. It just automatically detects 2.1 and won't even let me change to 5.1. This was in the old drivers too, which is why I wanted to update to the latest driver. I can't think of a way for it to detect my 5.1 speakers.

Make sure the changes are being made in the Speaker configuration from within the windows control panel (go to control center, click on speakers, then click on configure).

Does the sub onyour speakers have a 2.1 4 and 5.1 switch on the sub? I know my z5300e 5.1 system I does... maybe its switched that way? otherwise right click on the speaker icon in the running tray, select output devices, then right click on the speakers and select configure...

I had issues with this. they are right (listen to ericeod ) You need to run the driver and CCL in vista mode. Once they are installed, go into the windows speaker set-up and set it to 5.1/7.1 or whatever. Works fine. (Although, I did get static the first time I installed the drivers, but after removing them and reinstalling, was OK)

I did that, but Creative still sees my speakers as 2.0/2.1 when I set Windows to 5.1. The only way I can make my rear speakers work is by pressing the "Matrix" button on my controller, which is supposed to simulate a surround sound setting with music and stuff. Before in Vista, I used to get full 5.1 even when Matrix setting is disabled (this is also when Creative recognized it as 5.1). In other words, changing the Windows speakers setting doesn't do anything.

Are you also using the creative console launcher? Also, what doesn't play in surround? MP3's, movies, games?
