Default Really slow standby in Vista

Ok, for a while now I have had a problem. When I try to standby in vista it takes about 30 seconds. The screen goes black after a few seconds, but the fans/lights stay on for about 25-30 seconds more. It never took this long before! It does it no matter if the PC has been on for a few minutes or a few days. It comes out of it in about 3 seconds, and does not seem to have this problem when I am in XP. Any ideas on how to fix this?

That's completely normal. Since Vista is proportionally bigger than XP, it takes a bit longer for it to store everything in RAM temporarily to your hard disk.

Normally that means, it needs to write something along the lines of 1.3 GBs to 2 GBs of data to your hard disk, so it can be retrieved later.

Vista's "Sleep" state is different than XP's. This article does a good job of explaining the differences and similarities between the two.

Ah, thanks. I guess it just entered standby faster when I had less programs running in the background. I think I like the faster standby of XP better though with no writing to disk... Oh well, not to often that I need it to turn off fast anyway. REP+
