XP x64 or W7 after SP1 has been released.

I just love these 3330MB things...
Use a 32MB graphic card with 4GB and you'll get to use more than 3.5GB of those 4GB's...

why would I go Vista Ultimate, or Business, or Home premium?

All i need is proper network functionality and None of the bells and Whistles.

I will try my best to turn off the Vista Goodies and make it as Stream Lined as possible.

And i will be using my 640mb Video card, and possibly highe rlevel GPU in the future, with of course, MOAR RAM

It was a Canon scanner and a Belkin adapter. Admittedly both are not new tech so maybe that has something to do with it.


Vista Home Premium is the best choice. Ultimate is a joke.

I do the same thing with my vista setup. I turn off all of the bloatware features that serve not purpose.

Even with it pared down to minimal features, it is still slower than XP64 bit.

You should get vista x64 home premium. On the build you are planning there is NO reason to turn off any of the pretty vista features. You will have more than enough memory and CPU power to play any game, the limiting factor will be your GPU during games, not your cpu running background stuff.


Just get x64 premium and be happy. Trust me you want vista if only for the superfetch alone.

Edit: There are also a few VERY good reasons for you to sell your ram and buy ddr2.

1) running 4 sticks of ram limits overclock. Get 2 2gb dims

2) (the most important reason) You want the ud3p board for lg775, end of story.

I know W7 is already out of the argument but I will put in another positive word for it and mention that I got GTA IV working on it and any other games I have tried. I do like it better than Vista for sure.

I am personally not a fan of paying too much for last gen stuff so keep a look out for deals if you go with Vista or Xp as you will want to switch sooner rather than later.

He already said, he cares about gaming, he's not a bencher. So sure, turning off all background features will help there, but it won't net you any kind of meaningful fps on a new system.

Well with the possibility that I will end up running 2 x 2 gb DDR3 + 2 x 1 gb I will happily downloack the memory and tighten the timings which will nto limit my processors overclock.

having the high speed DDR3 vs DDR2 will give me much mroe flexibility.


and the motherboard i will be using is the UD3P DDR3 version, GA-EP45T-UD3P

I don't recall emphasizing benching over gaming or day to day use.

I rarely run benches (typically only to ensure systems are stable, etc).

Compare FPS between the two OS in any given game (taking DX10 out of the equation) and you will see what I mean.

COD WAW for example averages 10-15 FPS higher in XP than it does in Vista with identical hardware and settings.

I have one of these unlimited use XP Pro disc's, but only 32 bit
