The only thing that is a fact, is when a non-microsoft developer decides to use MS dlls in thier product *they* are responsible for keeping up with updates. Our shop is a member of MSDN (as are most developers) and we get beta and release candidates in plenty of time to modify our code before said releases hit mainstream. Now one of the drawbacks there is that window's developers are almost locked into using MS dll's, but in general MS has been very good about keeping the API constant. The major exception being the office API, that thing has gone through some gruesome changes. Quote:

Lol, do what i do, RUN 98SE!!!! So much less Lagg, yeah theres MAJOR downgrades to it (like no windows firewall, but thats a piece of ***** anyway, stops me from playing LAN games at school.....and no Wireless setup, but there are ways and means around anything..) Sure, its horribly old, but still. you can download XP files off the net and have it 1/2 XP and 1/2 98 kinda like the back up rig im using... zooming like a mazda.. sure cant play best games in the world (well a p2 cant... :P)

Can electronically created information actually be stolen?
Lets examine this idea for a moment.... A disk...being an actual object, can be stolen. A thought... ...lots of people seem to think that thoughts, especially in the form of ideas, can be stolen...though realistically and unfortunately...most thoughts are not original or unique. Ideas, like most thoughts, can be used, sometimes by people other than their creator...but can ideas truly be stolen? No..because they dont cease to be their creators thoughts after being used by another entity...they dont cease being the intellectual property of their originator when someone else "steals their idea", as many people are fond of saying...those thoughts/ideas remain in their creator's (or rediscoverer's) minds... if someones thoughts were psychically or surgically tore from their minds, then I would say they've had their thoughts stolen Now...digital information... Well...one aspect of electronic info is that in our modern societies, information about a person can actually be more important than the person themselves...therefore today, for some people, highly sensitive personal information is worth just as much, sometimes more than physical possessions and belongings. Which might mean that: Yes..electronic information can be stolen... OR... Is electronic information like thoughts, in that it doesn't cease being the owners if used by someone other than the owner? It would seem to be so...at least partly. ...and unlike a book, cd, or even a napkin with info written in mustard, can electronic information, not being tangibly physical...be a true individual belonging in the traditional sense? Hmm.. /shrug Information either IS or ISN'T...it exists or it doesnt...and Hey..thiz guyz more punk than me! Dont steal from people...thats just bad form ...and dont cry when evil corporate overlords and cutthroats don't get to make yet another few bucks...they'd probably use it to take over or push out another company...or maybe just buy hookers and gin...I mean c'mon...gin is disgusting ![]() Last edited by ColdTriton : 10-18-05 at 08:08 AM. |
