Default Windows and mp3 player hard drive problems

I bought an Archos Av 140 and used it for about a year. Every time I moved files over to it and from it I did it while it was connected through the USB 2.0 drive. I also deleted files from within Windows by dragging to the garbage bin from my player.

Now, though, I have tried to put a 4 GB file on the palyer And though windows says I have 20.7 gbs free, the player says I don't have enough space. I have heard that there is a problem if the in player interface is not used to delete files.

It there a way I can format my player's hard drive or another way to fix this? My player it appears doesn't count anything deleted while connected to the computer even though it is over half empty.

Anybody heard of this problem before? I heard this happens with ipods and other players too.

Use iTunes with the iPod...

If it's not an iPod then try using the software that came with your player, I have a format option with my mp3 player trough the software cd program.

Sorry man, I havent heard this problem before. I have an iRiver (www.iriveramerica.com) and I often use it to transport large files like you do. I would suggest moving all your music and any other files you have onto a folder on your desktop. Then delete everything from your player. Refortmat, defragment, and drag the files back onto it and try the large files again. This SHOULD work, although I've never heard of this. Give that a try.

How do I format my hard drive? I don't knoiw what format to use (no NTSC or FAT32 for player I believe). I think the format may be one that windows 95 uses burt I have no Idea. Is there a program that can format addon harddrives and detect thier current format settings.

The format is Fat32. Is there a program that fully formats it, not jsut quick formats it because even after a quick format, the problem is still there. Is there a program that can do a full format?
