Default DVD-R Burning Session Issue?

Hey everyone. I'm having an issue with burned CD's. My laptop uses Windows Vista while my desktop has XP. Whenever I burn DVD-R's using the Windows Vista drag and drop burn option, it burns the files I need to transfer beautifully and says it's closing the session when I go to eject it.

When I put this DVD onto my desktop (XP), the computer cannot read a thing. The DVD has 0MB of information, but is not blank.

It's annoying not having a jump drive big enough to transfer a bunch of photo albums from laptop to desktop, so if this DVD-R option doesn't work, I have to keep reusing my small jump drive to do this.

Is the DVD just not closed or something? I have tried "close session" on Vista, but the results are the same. Does anyone know a way to still use this drag and drop feature on Vista while still getting it to work on XP? If not, what's a good free software option for doing this stuff?

Thanks in advance. (Sorry, I don't know how to be concise either)
