Hello, i just got my processor but thats not the point. i am gonna install windows xp. But its a different cd key from my mom's old laptop that she doesn't use anymore. Does this mean that I can use this cd key that she doesn't use anymore or would i have to buy a new one?

Technically, if it's an OEM key, it can only be used with the original hardware. If it's a retail key, you can use it anywhere as long as you only run one copy at a time. That's not detailed legal advice by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a decent rule of thumb if you want to go by the book.

Once you have Windows. It belongs to you. You can do anything you want with it. (except) running it on 2 PC.

"MS Callcenter, my name is Brenda, how can I help?" -"I installed Windows XP on another PC, even though it's kind of illegal. But actually it's my HDD's fault, and I needed to reregister it on my new HDD. "Errr...yes...Lay of the pills, man!" -"*starts crying* I'm a crook, I'm a thief for installing Windows XP on 2 PCs, and I'm a looser for calling the MS Callcenter!" Or just ignore MS and install it on 3 PCs! That'll learn 'em! You can install the OEM version of Windows XP on any computer. Did it with my OEM copy of Windows XP ![]()
