Default Boot Manager woes

So I built a pc for a friend with windows 7, but he has some games that required xp to work. We decided to put xp on and dual boot. Naturally I cant boot to 7 once XP is installed. So I pull out my handy 7 rc disk and use the repair option in hopes I will see the boot manager menu. But it just went straight into 7. So I went into disk management and set both drives to have an active operating system on them. Now when I boot I get the ntldr error. So I pull the 7 repair disc out AGAIN lol and try it, but this time to no avail. I did try the easy boot cd, but it would not let me select the second harddrive when I wanted it to have 2 OS's on the boot menu. Now i'd be happy if I could just get into 7. Any suggestions?

Put in the 7 disk and get to where you Repair the installation. Instead, open the command prompt option and type:
Code:
bootrec.exe /fixmbr
bootrec.exe /fixboot
Then restart. That should restore the 7 boot manager. I find that doing it manually since you know the problem usually works more often than the generic Repair option.

Then use EasyBCD or MSconfig to add XP after you get that sorted out. You shouldn't set them both to be active.

Now try using the repair option, once with the XP disk, and once with the 7 disk...That happened to me a bit back.

You can go into MSCONFIG and remove the "Recovered" tags if you want.

Okay, got the boot manager window with a 30 sec timeout. 7 works, XP does not. I'll repair that one next.

Bioshock has issues and compatability mode causes resolution issues. Several 90's games he has as well don't play nicely.

Can you add XP to the 7 manager using EasyBCD?
