Default Windows XP Installation Help

Hey OCN!
My friend asked me to help him put a fresh copy of Windows XP onto his Toshiba Laptop. I put the disc in and proceeded to boot from CD. The screen goes into the windows XP installation screen. It then started loading all the drivers and everything. But once it got up to the part where it says:" loading windows file system (NTFS)" it would finish and then would give me a blue screen. The message on it says it might be my Hard Disc. So i ran chkdsk /f and it was fine.
So i thought it was the CD's problem. I put the CD onto another laptop, this time a sony one. I couldnt even boot from CD this time.
Now i put the CD into my friends rig that i built for him, the CD booted up fine and went into the screen asking me if i wanted to install windows XP or repair it.
Help plz! Im really stuck and i dont want to disappoint my friend and ruin my reputation of the "tech guy". lol.

Don't you have the fresh instalol disk that came with the laptop?
In my experience, it sometimes has "special" drivers for laptops. If you load with a different XP media, it will come with "standard" drivers.

Then use the recovery disc. As much as I hate those things, I'm actually recommending the use of it this time.

No he meant you can't ask for rep or offer to give you lots of reps for helping him. He already took it down.

This is what the Overclock.net Professionalism Initiative thread states:
Quote:
Reputation

The reputation system is intended to acknowledge members who have contributed to the forum, essentially a tally of "thank yous" for good work. In general, rep should be given to any member who provides help to you in a thread or who posts an exceptional post anywhere on the site. Rep should not be given for information shared in a PM, for posts that are not helpful, or for any frivolous reason. You may not ask for or offer to give reps for help; it is understood that members will give reps when they are deserved. For more details, read the Reputation Defined thread.
Notice the 2nd to the last sentence where it says that we can't ask for or offer to give reps for help. In other words, we can not talk about reps at all. It's the same as the Tip system: a good waiter or a waitress never talks about the tip with their customer - ever.

Not only that, but if you say "Rep+ for anyone who helps", then every reply is cheapened, and it can look like people are only replying because they might get a rep out of it. Personally, I hate replying to threads where a Rep was promised because then it can look like I only replied for the Rep.
