XP == Win 2000 + Win9x.
XP isnt based on Windows 9x at all, Windows 3.1/95/98/ME were all MS-DOS based. Although Windows ME's access to DOS was hidden it was still based on DOS and the Windows 9x line.

2000 was the first Windows OS without DOS, and XP was built around it.

It might work, but I certainly wouldn't pin a reformat on the possibility of driver compatibility with a Windows emulator.
