You've been hit rather hard by the Slashdot Effect. You may want to rehost those images elsewhere.

You obviously don't use Linux. No one said you had to code your own drivers. They said you have to compile the code, which is as simple as running 2-3 commands from a command line after downloading the code. And almost every site that provides code includes a text file telling you what commands to type in. So its really as simple as copying and pasting from a document into a terminal window. Yes, probably above your average grandmother, but I bet most people ages 10-30 could handle this.

Angry Why do people still use Photobucket?

Why do people use Photobucket?
Somehow it became the official free picture hosting service of the "real hax0r".

Their are plenty of other free unlimited bandwidth photo hosting services out there. Even more since the wide adoption of twitter.

Come on people!

oh come on...

that third slide - i have never had any issues with any cameras MP3 players or ipods connecting to my PC, and working after i plug them in. my printer worked fine in Linux, out of the box whereas i had to find drivers for it in windows (XP and 7) and World of Warcraft does work via WINE... it's fair to say games tend to not be as nice on Linux due to more issues, but a lot of them do work, and work well. and i think there will be a program that supports video chat across all IM networks... empathy in Karmic Koala comes to mind...

oh and by the way, MSN only supports (last i checked) MSN addys, and Pidgin supports google ones, and a lot more, including MSN ones... nice way to shoot themselves in the foot there...

as for 'internet connection' : can someone explain to me why my PC with Win7 RC couldn't access the net? and after i reinstalled XP home, it too failed to access the net, where as with Ubuntu it worked fine? as for 'maximum protection' - protection from what? what do i need to be protected from in Linux? (and yes i know there are linux viruses in the wild but i am yet to even read of someone being hit by one). 'value and dependability' - well, MS does win dep- wait, no they don't... i do not like having to reinstall my OS for the simple reason that it turns on fine one day, and then next thing, cannot find the ntfs.sys file... and nothing beats free...

come on Microsoft... your OS is not THAT good... at the very least, learn from your competitors. i could go on and on... by the way, we don't NEED itunes... or Office 07, or Photoshop for that matter... Rhythmbox, OpenOffice, and The Gimp all come with Ubuntu, and they all are preinstalled without anyone having to lift a finger or pay a red cent.

"windows offers free programs for download" - oh yeah? how about an entire OS?

amsn works very well with msn ( and other networks ) and supports the webcam, a rel pleasure to use it on my eeePC

just that sometimes microdoft changes the msn protocol to force users to use his own msn client . . . then yes, amsn wont work for 2 or 3 days and a new version comes out , supporting the new msn protocol . . .

I am glad corporations don't make decisions based on "feelings".

There are a ton of holes in these slides - and for folks that cannot think for themselves or are too afraid to, they deserve to have their choices made for them. Best Buy is a good place for these type of folks, and they get neat black and white uniformed nerds available for hire in neat little cars. Whee!

I transitioned to Linux desktop full time mid 2008 after my XP box became a complete Linux poser machine - cygwin, trac, python, perl, open source everything, apache ssl, ssh server, subversion, vnc, and a complete pain in the butt to get all that working in Windows.

Then read in Linux its a few commands. Linux envy ensued.

Now - Ubuntu - Brother scanner - meh, printing is fine, treo sync - forget it, digi camera - mostly works, sound - alsa? pulse? wish a decision would be made. Course its also the household samba server and backed up quite often via my own scripts.

For friends - I consider how much I'll have to hand hold - I warn them and if they want Word and Ipod stuff to work, keep Windows cause I don't want the hassle but if it gets infected again, I'll not feel sorry for them. If they need just internet and youtube, or are willing to tinker, I'll recommend Linux and if they are ok, I'll help them a bit to transition - as long as they allow me remote access to fix things - I setup a friend that is not a savvy computer user - not interested either - but just wants it to work - they love Ubuntu. I once remoted in and fixed the sound, else the only complaint is its so reliable and boring.
