Default I want to reinstall windows, but dont have a cd

I had bought a Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop for next to nothing, but the OS is VERY fragged, and seems to have some viruses. I want to reinstall the OS, but I don't have a disk. The sticker on the bottom says Windows XP Home Edition. What can I do to reinstall the OS?? I am worried a torrent will give something I don't want. Anyone have a image??

After some thinking, I thought it would be really neat to find a website that had images of every OS, that way if a cd ever gets lost, you can always burn another.

There should be a seperate partician on your hard drive that just has the Base OS and nothing else. Try holding down F8 while you are in start up and see if there is an option for system restoring to orginal settings. Also. JKDefrag is a great program and AVG can get you through the night. Also stay away from any get this free sites and porn sites with Trigger as the main character.

Thanks, I do stay away from bad sites. The owner before me didn't. I am thinking about trying to clean it up, but I think it would be much easier, and probably best to reformat, then i can put everything in my name.

I never saw a seperate partition though (like a recovery partition). I know what your talking about, I have done this to my girlfriend computer, but I am not sure if mine has this option.

Operator: Hello, thank you for calling Microsoft technical support, my name is John, how may I help you?

You: Yeah, I just reinstalled Windows XP on this laptop. Original OS had more viruses than the red light district, and I didn't have the original disc. Can you help me activate it?

Operator: Sure.

10 minutes of reading codes back and forth, then entering an unlock code, later

Operator: Did that successfully activate?

You: Yes, thank you!

Not a problem at all.
