anyone know of any issues with 7 and nforce chipsets? my mom has been having a serious freezing issue when moving large files. error reported is a no response from device/RAID/0. however, she is not running a raid, and her hdd's are set to IDE in bios.
some corrections, the 750GB drive is a samsung spinpoint. she installed 7 on the samsung because it had the larger cache... and she short stroked it, lol, my mom rocks, 70 y/o clocker, lol.

I have the nForce 720a chipset and don't have that problem... maybe reinstall the chipset drivers?

i've tried reinstalling the drivers, rolling back to stock 7 drivers. still freezes. memory tests fine, no OC.

Hmm... could the hard drive be going bad? There's a couple free utilities that can check the drive's health.

they are all ntfs. there's a seagate 250gb (system disk), seagate 750gb drive (user folders/files) and a wd external (only ran for backing up). the two seagates are connected to sataI and sataII ports. it's an asus m2n-e mobo (570 ultra mcp).
some corrections, the 750GB drive is a samsung spinpoint. she installed 7 on the samsung because it had the larger cache... and she short stroked it, lol, my mom rocks, 70 y/o clocker, lol.

ok, just talked to my mom, apparently there has been new development since this morning. she was working on photos and it froze up. she rebooted, after POST and error came up that just said ctr missing. she went into bios and her boot drive was not listed, she restarted and went into BIOS again, her drive was listed, but not set as the primary boot drive. she changed the boot order, rebooted and the computer has been fine all day. she tested it by moving a 6GB folder from drive to drive and partition to partition (which was normally freezing it up), and it worked. it's been working fine for her all day.
i told her to keep going if it's working. if it starts freezing up again, i'm going to have her change sata ports for the drives and test her drives with seagates tools. if i remember correctly, we had this problem 2 years ago with her old hard drives. so if anything, it may be the motherboard.

Interesting. That error you listed tells me you have a Samsung F1 series 750gb drive.
I have had a similar issue with my Evga 750FTW mobo and Samsung F1 750gb drive. I dont get any error messages but do experience random freezing of the system and a similar problem after reboot. Once the system freezes and I reset the system the board will not recognize the IDE drives until I do a complete power cycle. I then have to reset my boot drive to the samsung drive. I also had my maxtor 200gb drive in a raw unformated unpartioned state until last night as I was trying to recover some lost data on it and failed then dropped the issue until last night. I read on the EVGA FAQ that differing file systems is often a cuase of crashes and finished the repartion of the disk and formatted hoping this would solve the problem. But I have a feeling we are dealing witha bug between the nforce sata controller and the F1 firmware. I have some more digging to do but you and I have such a similar issue that I think some emails to Samsung and Nvidia are in order.
