Default windows7 upgrade.

Ok im giving in with windows7. rumor has it, if u have a self build rig u need a different type of window7 disk? im really confuse with this upgrade. cuz a friend of mine bought 2 separate window7 disk one for a dell desktop, and the second one is for his opteron175 that he built. second question is product key, u use ur old product key right? i have an OEM product key would that work with the upgrade? and do u reformat it the old fashion?

You can use any form of Windows 7 be it OEM, Upgrade or Full. OEM is for system builders normally and is tied to one PC. Upgrade is used to upgraded off of Vista but can be used for a clean install with out a previous OS installed. Full is the whole meal deal.

Upgrade/oem/full version are all the same disk afaik.

One key per disk.

Reformat the same way unless your installing off of a download, in which you would install onto another selected partition.

The upgrade disk shouldve came with a new key code. Im assuming you have an upgrade disk, so doing a clean install shouldnt be a problem. I did it with mine, or you can just upgrade can keep your existing files. I honestly dont this there is much difference between an upgrade disk and retail version besides the licensing.

I guess if you get Win7 Pro and run it under XP mode that would work. You would have to ask someone who has played with the feature though, I dont have 7 yet.

Its a virtual mode for Windows 7 that runs in an XP enviroment. There are some hardware requirements though.
