Wow. I shut down my pc to dust off a fan and when I tried to reboot I got an error telling me Windows couldn't start and W7 recommended a Repair.
__________________Forget that. I cleared my CMOS, loaded optimized defaults and tried to boot again..... Same thing. I inserted my disc and tried a repair. It said everything was good...but wouldn't boot; it just hung after the Windows emblem flew together and staid there. I did another repair install; same results. Cleared CMOS again and tried to boot. Booted. Got all the way to my desk top after like 20 minutes of slow going then couldn't do anything--my pc's response time was so slow it was useless. Reformatted my drive and re-installed. Here I am fine and dandy. My question is, could my HDD be failing..? Bad sectors cause a corrupt os like this? This HDD is old. I mean REALLY old--almost 5 years old now. *As a note, all my oc's are thoroughly tested using Prime95 and memtest86+; in Prime I do Small FFT's for 10 hours and Blend for 8. Memtest86+ for 5 full passes. This has never happened to me before. I mean, 2 failed repairs..? Thanks for any suggestions guys.

is the hdd in question that WD caviar? test it - only way to know if it is bad - but 5 years is not old. i still have hdd's in use that cost hundreds of dollers and they are less then 100gb - crap i just through out 5 7xxmb drivers - all the same make and model im assuming for some type of raid setup.
really just sounds like a windows 7 issue. believe it or not, win7 is not god - it has some MAJOR improvements but is still yet to be perfect.

Yeah, the drive is my Caviar. I guess I'll just have to use some kind of disc checker.
__________________I know W7 isn't perfect but I've been using it since the first BETAS and nothing even remotely similar to this has ever happened before. Just found it odd that a Repair Install would fail twice like that. Thanks for the input. I'm off to Google disc checkers I guess.

most definetly - check WD's site - I kno that seagate has an excellent program for their drives, and actually remember hearing that it might test other brands - seatools.

![]() Anyways, it sounds indeed like the hdd is crapping out, a friend of mine had some kind of similar issue where win7 would slow down to a crawl right after it finished installing.. he got a new hdd and been running fine since. You might want to check the S.M.A.R.T. output, and I believe Everest has some disk checking/stress testing tools you might want to try out

Try cleaning the RAM sockets with canned air lightly because it sounds like the ram is getting interrupted.

. My tiny rig needs so many upgrades... *sigh* But looks like a new HDD is in the works regardless. Maybe I'll use this one for music storage until it craps out. Thanks.@Ecchi: Thanks for the tip. I was kind of confused because I know (it's happened to me) instability on an oc can ruin an os. So the last time I set my template I ran the crap out of every test there is to make sure it was good. But your advice sounds likely as well. Man I hate doing this but I'll probably tear down and clean up everything this week sometime. I just hate to rewire (no modular psu) it's a real PITA. Thanks guys.
