Default Windows won't load, OS freezes.... no graphics

I think my video card is dead man, Windows work 1 of 5 start up and when it starts up its just a black screen but the monitor is on.

I'm trying to find the problem but honestly I cannot figure it out right now, I am about to run memtest and see if there is a free system disk that checks your hardware for you.

Does the monitor go into standby mode? This is on vista? Sounds like a corrupt driver.

Yes the monitor turns on but no loading screen. Do you know of a program to back up the hard drive?

My 4870 did the same thing, my issue was a driver related with win7. How far do you get in the windows install?

I re-installed the OS but I don't know if it's still overclocked.
