Default Smearing Problem

Ok so I am having a really weird problem with one of the computers I am working on.

It has 2 22" monitors, nVidia 260, 4GB of RAM, 5 drives on RAID and a 2.6 ghz Quad. Whenever I close a window or lock the computer and log back in the background is a ghost of whatever window I just closed/the login screen. If I drag a window over the ghost image is disappears.

It is running Windows XP and idles around ~0-1% CPU and 550MB in the RAM.

Thanks!

I've had this problem in XP before but it was intermittent not constant like you describe. Since it only happened every once in a while I never tracked down the problem.
EDIT: Actually come to think of it when it happened to me it left an exact copy image of the window but yours is more like a ghost image so I imagine it is two seperate issues.

Does it do it with just one monitor plugged in too?

From what I've tested so far it only happens when both the monitors are plugged in and being used. I tried updating the video card drivers but no avail. Should I run something like a mem86 test or is there something else I can try before I take all that time running the test?

Not sure. Are you letting XP handle the two monitors? I know I ran into all kinds of problems when running dual monitors with XP until I installed UltraMon.

Perhaps you need a third party program like UltraMon. If you already have a 3rd party program, check to see if it happens with just XP "administering"(for lack of a better word) the monitors. If it doesn't happen w/o the 3rd party software then you know that is your problem.

Never thought of that... I assumed the XP/nVidia drivers would be able to handle it but I'll check it out next time I'm at work. I'll let you know!
