Default Upgrading XP MCE to Vista Home Premium

Is there a way to upgrade this but haveing a clean install? My MCE is kinda buggy and has some issues, and i dont really want to pass that stuff onto the Vista OS when it installs.

Or will it still install cleanlly? Also will my recorded Media that is in MCE transfer over to the new media center? Is there a way to do it?

Thanks

I don't know how to transfer the media over, nor do I know if you can put it in a safe place while upgrading, but I do know this: you can do a 100% clean install with the installation DVD. You can boot from the installer, have the installer Delete the partition (so, if it's not partitioned, then it's 1 partition), then have it Create a New one, and then have it Format. After that, you'd have it install.

If it's an Upgrade installation disc, then don't enter the Product Key when you are first asked for it. It will probably be rejected. Instead, run the installer once Windows Vista is finished booting up. Select the Upgrade (the in-place type of upgrade). This way you essentially upgrade the upgrade. When finished, you should then be able to successfully enter the Product Key as well as activate it.

After that, you can begin putting everything back the way you had it. I am hoping that you have an external hard drive (or an extra internal one) so that you have a safe place to put everything you want to keep during this process.

Otherwise, you might have to take a chance with the in-place upgrade. I mean, you never know: it could fix the bugs and issues.

Can i reuse the upgrade on the same computer? Like if i need to reformat it later? Or is it a one time use thing?

I don't know yet, however, I'd like to guess it will work since this double-install method works after doing a completely fresh installation where there's no OS on the drive (since after all, it began with a fresh Delete/Create/Format). I mean, I do have yet to find out. But since this double-install method works, I will actually be surprised if it doesn't work a 2nd time, 3rd, time, 4th, etc.
