But Windows XP Mode doesn't run games anyway.

XP Mode is based off of Virtual PC, which doesn't allow abstraction of the video hardware and thus does not support DirectX 3D acceleration.

I don't know the specifics of "why", however, I do know that Windows XP Mode is designed for and "marketed" towards businesses who want to upgrade to Windows 7 from XP, but have "productivity programs" that won't work in anything newer in XP. So, Microsoft came up with Windows XP Mode to solve that problem. Now businesses can upgrade from XP to 7 without worrying about getting new productivity software.
So, Windows XP Mode is not for people like us. I predict that around 1% or less of people here on Overclock.net will find Windows XP Mode useful on their personal system. But at the same time, I predict that many will be using it at work - that is, if they work in a place where they upgrade to Windows 7 just because they can use Windows XP Mode. Windows XP Mode is a pre-configured Virtual Machine designed specifically to emulate a typical Windows XP office computer. And so I guess the "why" is because it's a Virtual Machine. And so even if it could, it would be slower than anything.
