Dell has delivered me my new W7 machine (640GB Hard Drive) with W7 partitioned on C drive and D drive is meant to be data. C drive is only 60Gb (I thought too small) and currently holds everything e.g. Users data, Programs, drivers, contacts etc. plus OS. D has nothing at 550GB+ and this is where I want most data/info/app programs etc. to go.
__________________How can I change Users, Programs etc. from C drive to D drive? Or do I have to completely set up new folders on D drive and manually direct everything I want saved to D drive? I would appreciate any guidance. thanks a lot. Mismar

there are ways to make your my documents folder to be in a different partition, but it requires editing the registry.
your best bet is to delete the large partition and extend the small one to take up the whole disk.

Ok..thanks for that advice. How do I 'extend' the small one (C drive)? Does it affect the W7 OS installed on that drive?

to get rid of the unwanted partition:
start>right click computer>manage>disk management>right click the empty volume>delete volume to extend the OS partition: right click on the OS partition>extend volume and tell it to use as much space as it will allow. edit: this is all assuming the two partitions are on the same disk. if they are not then you will just have to live with it or look up how to edit the registry to place my documents in the other partition.
