Download and install some good defragmenting software like Defraggler.
I would also install CCleaner and run that to get rid of all the useless files that build up.
Lastly, download Spybot, Malware Bytes and a good AV/Firewall (see my sig for a how-to) and run a scan for malware.

If that doesn't work try start > run > msconfig/services.msc to reduce the amount of stuff running in your memory.

Try iobit's defrag and free system optimizer, they work pretty well.

I also use CCleaner, go into tools, startup, and disable all unesasary programs that aren't needed.

I hate to be that guy... but...

My solution is to have 2 partitions on my HDD. One for Windows and programs (partitioned off about 150 gigs), and one for all data. This way, as soon as Windows starts acting funky, I just go straight to a re-format and install. It is much easier this way. For future use, I would re-size your partitions, and move data off to the data partition.

For now...

Run CCleaner, SpyBot, Defrag, and do a good AV scan.

Do a start -> msconfig and disable stuff you don't need.
