Hey folks.
Here's the problem: Bootvis said XP takes 18 seconds to initialize my disks. So I go online and find someone with the same problem. The solution (for him) was the following: System Properties/System/Hardware/Device Manager/IDE ATA?ATAPI controllers/Primary IDE Channel/Advanced Settings/Device Type/None. Doing this dropped my bootvis disk init time to 8 seconds. I've unplugged my floppy from the board, doesn't change. Everything's plugged in, and considering my old 2002 laptop loaded on 1.5 bars (or less after clean install), I am at wit's end. Suggestions? edit: before I changed IDE settings, I got 12 bars at xp loading screen. After, 5-6.

Are you sure you have all the disks configured correctly in the BIOS? Sometimes searching for non-existant or non-configures disks slows down posting. And it's a real shot-in-the-dark to assume someone else's disk initialization problem is yours. Have you tried letting bootviz optimize?
