Default Windows 7 BSOD stop error 124

Hi guys! So my system was perfectly fine with Vista x64 2 days ago then I performed a clean install of Windows 7 (Build 7600) Ultimate x64. The first few hours of Windows 7 experience was great. Everything seems a lot faster compared to Vista. And then I reinstalled my games, updated graphics driver to 9.10 and basically updated all drivers ranging from audio and chipset drivers. I haven't updated my COD4 to 1.7 yet because i lost my 1.6 cumulative update and I just got the 1.7 patch instead. I tried to play single player just to overcome boredom while downloading the 1.6 patch. After a few minutes of gameplay, My screen froze then i hear a stuttering sound and presto! I got a BSOD stating a stop error 124. I was like "Ok! maybe you don't like my recent drivers then". So I went ahead and uninstalled the 9.10 ATI driver then went to safe mode and cleaned it using Driver Sweeper and finally installed the 9.9 driver. I opened up COD4 again, then after like 20 minutes of gameplay, I encountered the same problem.

My PC is overclocked and been running just fine almost 24/7 a few months back. Temps are OK! CPU temp is just about high 40s to low 50s while gaming and VC temps seldom reaches 67c, most of the time it sits at 60-65c while playing games. My GPU was a little bit overclocked prior to the incident but I reverted it back to stock settings.

Here is the breakdown of the procedures that i performed after I encountered the BSOD;

1. Reinstalled/Rollback drivers
2. Cleaned up registry
3. Checked memory for errors like 2 or 3 times already
4. Performed a chkdsk /r
5. Reinstalled Windows 7
6. Scanned HDDs for errors
7. Did some updates with WIN 7

I could not recall the other steps that i tried atm. But every step that i performed did not give me an error.

Most of the time the BSOD pops up while gaming but just a few hours ago, I encountered it while just playing some music in winamp. I already spent several hours searching for this kind of problem but I still could not find a solid fix although I was kinda relieved knowing other people are having the same problems too.

I will attach the dump file maybe it will help us fix the issue. I will appreciate any help that I can get. Thank you for time.

I was getting the same error with Win 7 constantly until I updated my chipset and video card drivers. Then, I started getting it again so I replaced my processor with a lower wattage chip and it has not happened again in days. Check for Voltage droop.

Nice to hear that yours was fixed but changing the processor might not work for me because i doubt that it is the culprit. What boggles me though is the fact that it worked perfectly fine with Vista x64 sp1 for a very long time. Any other people having this issue?

You should back down your overclock some and see if it keeps happening.

For me it seems that Windows 7 has been stressing the CPU a bit more than Vista did. My 4.0 GHz OC that was stable in Vista was unstable in 7, I had to up the volts a tad to get to a stable level. My temps suffered a bit because of that, but I am still running within acceptable levels. What is the BSOD? Is it an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, or an Uncorrectable Hardware Fault? (sorry, I uninstalled the dump analyzer so I cant run your dmp file)

I am pretty sure that the BSOD mentions about a hardware failure but I can't recall the exact words. Did your sound stutter too when it crashes? then gives you a BSOD? So far, stock settings did not give me any BSODs. I'll test it for a day just to be sure.

BSOD code 124 is a lack of VCORE or CPU VTT

Increase your voltage man

It all makes sense now since I am not having any problems with stock settings. I will play with vtt and vcore tomorrow *sigh*. It was actually the last thing that popped in my head knowing that my system was perfectly fine with vista x64. Thanks a lot guys.
