Default 32bitVista to 64bit7?

By accident, I installed my 32bit Vista DVD rather than the 64bit one that I couldn't locate. But I have found it now(may be good information, read on..). However, I don't want to redo that process again, its a drag. Plus I already have all my stuff back. The question is, can I install Windows 7 64bit to upgrade from this? Or anything of that nature? I have the Ultimate edition.

32 bit anything to 64 bit anything requires a clean install.

Last question, if I update to 7, I'll still have all my files? (sorry, never updated before, always done clean installs).

Yeah, you'll have your files. It would really be better to just back up everything to an external hard drive/flash drive and do a clean install, though.

W7 has an install thing where it will move all your old files to a folder called Windows.old when you do a fresh install.
Although I advise you to just format your HDD.
