Windows 7 has great driver support, so you shouldn't have to install any drivers. As for the activation, that's all on the hard drive, so the motherboard won't matter.

Did you move to the same Chipset? Or from AM2 to AM3? I don't think you'd have to then.

Yea, but if I did this with every MS OS before Windows 7, I would have to reinstall. I don't know whether to be thrilled or worried.

I went from socket AM2 to 775.

Yeah it's those weird things. Sometimes you move to different sockets and windows still works great!. I've done this many times in XP
