Default Win7/IE8/Steam issues

My IE8 is broken, it just hangs when I load it. I'll get a blank page but I can't click on anything in its window and its eventually reported as not responding. The 64-bit works fine but I can't set it as default.

Normally this wouldn't worry me - I use FFox, but I'm wanting to buy a game off steam that I can't get anywhere else and steam calls IE to complete the transaction. I can't find an option in steam to use FFox although it is my default browser and there is no entry for IE in programs/features. How should I repair/remove/reinstall it?

Thanks Darren

Is Firefox properly set as your default browser? As in, when you open an HTML file, Firefox shows up?

Yes, they show up as FFox documents and open with it, FFox says it is default and IE (the 64-bit that works) says it isn't.

Just go to the steam website in Firefox, login, and buy the game there. You don't have to make purchases within the Steam client.

And, back to the OP, how do I uninstall broken IE8? - now I just want rid of it.

To my understanding you can uninstall it with these steps

1.Enter the Control Panel and lfindt All Control Panel Options
2.Click Programs and Features
3.In the left sidebar, click Turn Windows Features On or Off (you will be thrown a UAC prompt if you elevated UAC)
4.Look for Internet Explorer 8 in the list and uncheck it.
5.Click OK. You will see a prompt notifying you of a reboot.
6.The machine will reboot once, configure things, and reboot again
