Default From xp to windows 7

I'm going to be upgrading my current system (XP, Q6600, MSI 650i) to what I now have listed in my signature. I'm now running XP on a WD 500GB Blue running on my current system, and I would like to unplug it, and reinstall it in the new system, creating a multi-boot system with Windows 7 on a WD 640GB Black.

My plans for the changeover: Build the new system in my existing case_

1-) Disconnect the XP 500GB HD from the MSI MB...

2-) Remove the MB...

3-) Assemble the new MB and all the hardware for the new system...

4-) Get XP up and running first using the 500GB HD...
a__In the BIOS select the CD drive to boot first...
b__Place the XP installation CD in the drive...
c__Boot...

5-) Install Windows 7 on the 640GB HD second...

The question I'm concerned with is when the XP installation CD prompts me to select, am I to do a repair install? Most of the information I have heard or read about, concerning this process, seems conflicted.

Thank You_

Why not do a fresh install on both counts?

Format and fresh install FTW
Good thing you have two partitions on that 640G so that you don't have to find another 640GB to backup all your stuff to instead of already saving it on the second partition.
Good thing you have two partitions.
Good thing.

Sorry about that 02...noted and edited. The idea is to do a slow migration to Windows 7. If the repair installation of XP fails I can always do a clean install. There are some applications that I would like to keep using on XP, and I intend to keep all or most of my DX9 titles on XP. So if I don't have to do a clean installation, why bother. I'm backed up using an external Seagate 500GB XTreme.
