Erm. I don't really see the issue here.

If you are building home rigs, you aren't using Royalty processes, so no change.
If you are buying OEM machines (Royalty - Dell, etc) you can't install their restore CD on a new MB **anyway**
If you buy an OEM (system builder corner shop machine) there is no difference - just switch Mobos and re-activate.

OH WOAHS ME!

(I would love to see the source of that to ensure it is just but yet more FUD)

This is old, old stuff, you can get windows activated easily as long as it is on 1 computer only, If you have to call just remember that power surge or lightning strike close to the house that fried your motherboard.

Yep, ran into this when I upgraded a couple of months ago. Called to activate (as online activation only works 3 times) and they asked a few "pointed" questions. As long as you word your answers correctly, it's fine.

Thats just the problem, with a new mobo you CAN NOT re activate, so say I built my computer and got a new copy of Windows to go along with it, now I decide I want that shiny new 975x chipset, so I get the Asus P5D2-E Premuim and now I have to buy Windows again! WTH! I think MS needs to quit being so full of itself and begin making Windows free like Linux, they do not need any more money!

Wrong. I did that exact thing. Changed my mobo two months ago and reloaded windows fresh. I was asked some questions but told them I replaced the board as a result of warranty. It was fine.
