I had to reinstall my windows professional and when I did it says to activate windows, but when i go through programs windows activation is not there. Also i so many problems installing everything. I tried installing sp2 and it has an error, I keep getting these messenger service errors, and I cant update my video card drivers. I got the cd from a friend and it is not the actual cd.

Did you re-install (aka format, etc) or just install on top of?

If your friend has an OEM disk without hardware locking, it will not require activation. However, when you go to get downloads that require Genuine Windows, you might be up the creek unless you have your original product key somewhere.
