I hate the ECS mobo I got for the 820 and I want to get one that will OC--is this gonna totally hose me with MS and their anal authetication key BS?

No, all you have to do is call in to an automated machine which can sometimes give you problems but if it does you can talk to a support tech and just tell that what you are doing. Tell them of course that this copy of XP is only on one system and you are good to go. I actually did this a little while ago and I was surprised by how easy it is.

Yes, you can use the same XP CD but they will ask you to validate your Windows.

If its a legit copy then you shouldn't have any troubles.
I've reformated about 9 time with this CD and key.

You can to a point. They may see the Key as illegal as thers been a hardware change..You will have to phone microsoft to activate it.
However i beleive there is a certain amount of times you can change your hardware. I installed XP on like 4 different hardware set-ups and no problem. You should be ok.

I believe it's 3 times, but the rediculous thing is that a keyboard change counts as 1

I have used my key about 15 times on my system already lol the first three were ok since then i have to call everytime. I use one of two excuses.
1) hard drive failure
2) virus wiped out the drive

no more questions asked

I changed from Nvidia to ATI and FREAKED OUT when the authentication window popped open the first time.

That is a relief to hear--as I cannot stand running on a board that has no OC options..

I feel you pain but as said above it seems like that cd-key is technically valid for 3 hardware changes..unless you have a corperate cd-key.
