Default *OFFICIAL* Windows Vista Discussion Thread

Alright, the next version of Windows is on the way, and we're all a little curuious about betas, hardware, performance, and such, so, let's have a central thread to discuss, and debate, Microsoft's latest creation, Windows Vista.

However, if you are going to argue a point, back it up. For instance, don't just say "Vista's gonna suck for gaming." Find some info to back it up, whether it be an article, benchmark, whatever. We just want to keep some order to things.

Default I know some people

......that are planning to give microsoft the boot because of vista. Top management at microsoft publically announced in one of their blogs that they will eventaully stop issuing activations for XP so as to force people to buy vista.

I can see announcing a date that support will stop for XP, but I think they are walking on very thin ice to say they wont issue activations after a certain point.

I will look for the link to that announcement and edit this post with it when i have time.

As for this family, we are going to Suse Linux. Nvidia already posted the Linux drivers for Nforce4 for Intel on their website, so it should be pretty painless.

Uh...LoL

Actually, Microsoft already announced that it will be supporting XP Home for two years after Vista (ie. releasing patches) and XP Pro for 7 years after Vista ships.

Additionally, XP will still be sold - even after end of support.

You can still buy Windows 95.

Hell, MS probably still makes a ton of money every year on MS DOS.

Not sure where your friends work, but I actually laughed Mt Dew out of my nose on the comment they would block activation. After 10 years in the PCB/OSM/OEM space, I am always amazed at the sheer lack of .. Oh, nevermind.

Edit:

And a link to a recent post I made. I didn't nearly try to deal with all the BS I have been reading, but it is a first shot:

http://www.overclock.net/operating-s...views-you.html

EXCELLENT REVIEW/BLOG of his Vista experience!!!!
http://www.winsupersite.com/reviews/

Read through that guys blog. He has the ups and the downs and unlike most the trogdolytes around here, has actually INSTALLED Vista.

(Maybe for fun, I will reload build 5308 on this POS Celeron I have.. with a Directx9 card.. And post on every thread that says anything about dx10 being required.)

Hey

I'm not *that* stupid. (Well, just don't ask my wife.)

If I am, it was from the decreasing IQ due to reading posts by folks with no idea what they are talkin' about..

I have seen more links to BS sites/articles (think " "trusted computing" thread or "will Vista run on your computer" threads) than fact over the last few months around here.
