Default windows safe mode: i mash f8, but i cant get it :P

no matter how fast i do it it just goes on to normal windows.
i got xp home.
Ive been having to just turn off the computer while windows loads to get to it, which isnt really good for comp.

It's either this: You don't hit F8 quick enough, your keyboard isn't working right away (For example sometimes when I froze and when I reboot it gives me the choice between last known good config, safe mode/with command promps/with networking etc and I cannot highlight choices because the keyboard doesn't seem to work. Then it works fine when I arrive on the OS). Eventually check BIOS. Keep pressing F8 all the time during bootup.

OR

That's strange. One reason could be that Windows cannot boot all the system 32/kenel files. And for that reason windows would go normal mode. You could try plenty of things before going into technical troubleshooting. First you can try to do: start/run and type "chkdsk /r" with the space and that could take up to a couple of hours depending on disk size.
Then one thing that can correct most of the problems is:
In BIOS set your computer to boot on CD first.
Reboot your computer with your Windows CD, then press F6 if needed for ASCSI controllers... Such as SATA Controllers.
Continue a normal installation process, and then, a window will come saying that a Windows x is detected, and it will ask do you want to overwrite it/install over it or press R to Repair, press R and follow all the instructions. This will not remove any programs except for all your Windows Updates that will be removed but easily reinstalled (I have no idea if it will remove SP2 for XP because SP2 is embedded on my Windows CD) Then you might need to reinstall some drivers, but not necessarily, but don't worry this will not harm your computer or data, I did this process 5 times witout losing any data before having to reinstall Windows completely because of massive Windows errors that couldn't be corrected in repair installation. I read something that said that this installation would remove documents from desktop (not applications) I'm not sure if this is true but just save those files in My Documents or somewhere else outside of the desktop to take no risks.

Try 'mashing' f8 from the post screen, you should get a boot device select menu, select you hdd and immediately hit f8. That should do it.

Booting to safe mode has absolutely nothing to do with the board type. It is OS specific. F8 is the boot menu, F5 is safe mode, F6 is used to load 3rd party drivers during setup, F2 is ASR, and F10 is recovery console. If you hit it as soon as the machine POSTS, youll get it.
