I would like to know if windows update could benefit my computer in performance wise because I did a fresh install last friday with windows xp sp2 latest build and didn't bother to turn on automatic update nor go to the website to update the system which I already know there are about 50 updates for my computer but I notice a dramatic performance increase without the updates.

There will be no performance increase from the updates (in fact, they will slow down boot time a bit), but they are essential for the well being of your computer. They patch holes in the OS that would let viruses, spyware and even hackers are able to access your computer, which would result in a MUCH slower computer, or even require a reformat. Basically, DOWNLOAD ALL THE UPDATES!

Best to keep it updated, it may run fine now but you are open to many things that can bring that to a halt.

You will no notice any perfromance increase as such but Updates will add compatibility fixes to hardware and other software. The updates will also will also plug up security holes within windows. Its always good to keep Windows update for the above reason.

just download them, it isn't so much the updates u install that makes ur pc slow, its all the other junk u install on it

Ya, but the updates do slow it down. When I do a fresh install of WinXP Pro it loads up in less then half a bar at first, but affter SP2 and the rest of the updates are in it takes 3-5 bars. Mind you however, this is much better then the 50+ bars I have seen on computers with a crap load of spyware/virues.
