Default Pci.sys is missing

hello i own a laptop and i havnt used it in some time but when i started it it had a error saying Pci.sys was missing is there anyway i can fix this with windows xp cd?
if anyone could tell me the command for it that would be great.
the hard drive is C:
and my dvd rom is d:

To fix that issue. Place your Windows XP cd in the Drive then in the Run command bar under start type in the command ''SFC /SCANNOW'' this will not start to replace missing or damaged windows files.

is this in the recovery console?
it said it wasny a kown command
i tried SFC /Scannow
and SFC/scannow
those commands didnt work

This should work do it in lower case.

nah but there is no way i can log into windows meaning i cant click starts > run > SFC /ScanNow.
so my only option now is to do it in recovery console which is when you put te xp cd in and and boot from in and press R for recovery console. safe mode also doesnt work

Well then im not sure on the command i will look it up for you. Have yo though about reinstallinwindows over your current installtion to fix this issue..the only problem is your game shortcuts will go in your start bar along with other applications.

are u saying u can reinstall windows xp and the files would still be intact?
ok i managed to get the pci error out of the way but now my pc laptop just restarts without any messages?

Yes if you install windows over your current partiton it will only replace the OS files..but please do research on that asi know it works for me but i dont want you losing data just incase it goes wrong.
