Default usb 2 dissappeared

have looked on the web for a solution but no luck - so i thought i would try here.
it seems all my enhanced usb controllers have dissappeared. so whenever i plug a usb device in i get the "this could run faster" message.
it must have happened after i updated the bios but even when i flash back to a previous version -no enhanced controllers.
tried updating usb drivers but it says it cant find better.
any ideas?
many thanks

Did you set the speed in the BIOS? There should be an option somewhere: in my BIOS I have to specifically set it to USB1.1+2.0 and in another option I can set it to "Hi-Speed" or "Full-Speed", where Hi-Speed is the choice I need (480Mbps v. 12MBps)

I've got a similar problem. My BIOS settings are fine, but only half of my USB ports are recognized as USB 2.0(they should all be 2.0). I can't force the 1.1 controller to update to the 2.0 drivers. I've updated chipset drivers, zero-filled my hard drive and reinstalled windows(twice!), and I have no idea what else to do.
