So apparently the CD I found that had windows on it wasn't legitimate. Microsoft told me this. So I'm trying to reinstall legitimately and the screen freezes on the "Windows Setup" Screen. That's the screen after "Setup is scanning your hardware configuration..." What is the problem?

Have you any overclock? Often a system that is not fully stable will have install problems. If you have any overclock, I advise that you set to default and attempt another install.

You need to COMPLETELY format your harddisk...if necessary use 3rd party software like Fdisk 2.1 or just download Ultimate boot CD

Here's what I have tried:
---Cleaning the computer physically. I tried to get out all the dust and whatnot. ---Installing onf different harddrives. No matter what drive I try, the install doesn't work. ---Using different install disks. No matter what install disk I use, it freezes after the "Windows is inspecting your system config" screen. ---Setting BIOS to default. Even at stock it won't work. I am using a drive with an OS already on it, and it's running fine. It just won't install a new operating system! ***?

Right. You need to fully format all partitions on that HDD before installing XP. You can do this using either F-disk utility or via the Windows XP cd. To do this you need to go int othe Bios and change your first boot device to the Cd/dvd drive. once you have done thi insert your XP cd into the drive and boot up from the cd in DOS so to speak. once it inspects your hardware config it will take you to the paritioning section. Simply delete all partitions there and install dont instal over a current partition. If all this is not possible then use F-disk to delete all partitions. Here is a site on it http://www.fdisk.com/fdisk/
