so i just built my computer. i go in to the bios and it recognizes my drive. so i pop in my windows xp home cd and it says booting cd: then it either says recognizing hardware then goes to an all black screen or it goes to a screen with a blinking cursor.

what should i do

With everything connected reset the c-mos on that motherboard by taking out the little battery on the motherboard for 1 min then replace it and boot up system.

i did that and the blue screen came up with WINDOWS and a white bar at the bottom. do i let that sit before it does something else

Try updating your bios to the latest version.

how would i go about doing that.

and do i update the bios b4 i install xp?

Right well update your bios and if that does not work then sounds like you need to wipe all the paritions and or data of that HDD by using a utility called F-disk here: http://www.fdisk.com/fdisk/

i dont have a floppy drive
