First, should I use Windows XP Pro, or Windows Server 2003 Standard?
Also, should I use IIS or apache as my web server? Can I use PHP and MySQL with IIS? How can I unblock a port? I can't install Apache because port 80 is blocked.

I thought that Windows XP Pro cannot be used as a server because of license problems.

it has limited IIS (10 connections at a time max) but if I use open source like apache I can have as much as I want. Server 2003 has full server capability.

Server 2003 is an excellent server, it is however, extremely expensive. For a small personal server in which you want to use php I would suggest linux.

what linux is best for webservers, hopefully i want to create a webserver with one of my computers as a project i would want to host a website on it, also i would want FTP access to the server and to load up a ventrilo 2.2 linux client on it too. its a big project but someones gotta try it. its for my gaming clan, just looking into different solutions for the best performance the server would just be used as a server with wine installed applications could be tested too, i just want to try and see how it goes. will need some help if anyone can help me further with this...
