Default Odd shutdown behavior

I run xp pro sp2 with two profiles. if i attempt to shut down from one account or the sign in screen, my pc reboots rather than shutting down. however, when i shut down from the other account, it shuts down properly. what the heck is going on?

Sounds like a shortcut error on that profile with the shutdown Icon. Check out my Windows FAQ in my sig below and there is a way to creat a new shutdown icon. If this doesnt sort your problem then the Registry can be to blame also. To fix this you need to get a registry scanner and fixer to fix these kinds of errors for you. One i can reccomend to you would be called ''Registry mechanic'' Which can be found here:http://www.pctools.com/registry-mech...oogle_registry

Took the words out of my mouth I use Registry Mechanic and love it.

However, I would also try opening the Administrator Tools menu and looking under the account permissions.. you may have a funky entry in there that causes this (I am at work and cannot do this so sorry this won't be too specific).

To get that to appear, right click on your start bar > properties > start menu [TAB] > customize (start menu) > advanced [TAB] > start menu items (mid box) > scroll ALL the way down until you see administrator tools > display on all programs menu

Now browse to that and open Local Security Policy, and look through there and see if there is anything funky going on with that!
