Over the last few days there have been several posts asking for information or otherwise talking about the X360 DVD firmware hacks. I have tried to address them in the individual threads, but in the interests if time, let me be clear about forum policy in this one sticky post:
There are no legal X360 firmware mods at this time. Unlike mod chips for the original XBox, the one and only purpose for the X360 firmware hack is to permit playing of copied games. It does not enable homebrew software, so it does not even enter the grey areas of the DMCA; it is clearly a violation of the DMCA because it's only purpose is to bypass copy protection mechanisms. Therefore, regardless of your, my, or anyone else's personal feelings on the matter, it is against the ToS to discuss the X360 firmware hacks. If you ask for, offer, or link to information about this topic, you will receive an infraction and the post and/or thread will be deleted. Please understand that this is not meant to be a heavy-handed, anti-first amendment policy. It is solely to protect Overclock.net from any potential liability stemming from discussions advocating or enabling illegal activity. Thanks everyone.
